The British Puppet Guild
The British Puppet Guild welcomes anyone interested in Puppetry and Model Theatre. We are the longest established puppetry organisation in the world. The Beijing Puppetry Festival
Founded in 2018, the Beijing International Puppet Festival is an international exchange platform for shadow puppetry and marionette arts. It is hosted by the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and co-organized by the Beijing Theatre Association and Beijing Hope Star Culture Communication Co., Ltd. To date,
the festival has been successfully held for eight editions.
As a professional international platform, we uphold an open and inclusive concept, respecting tradition while encouraging innovation. We are committed to promoting
free exploration and diverse expression in contemporary shadow puppet and marionette arts, with the goal of preserving and developing these traditional art forms
and fostering cultural exchange between China and the world. Over the past eight years, the festival has invited outstanding shadow puppet and marionette works from
189 performing groups across 31 countries and regions. It has now become one of China’s most internationally influential festivals of its kind, widely loved by
audiences and highly recognized by the industry.
In 2026, the 9th Beijing International Puppet Festival will be themed “Renewal” symbolizing how shadow puppet and marionette arts from different countries can take
on new life through exchange and integration, allowing traditional skills to shine on the international stage. The festival will open on September 19, 2026, and close on
October 20, 2026. It will feature five major sections: Shadow Puppet Carnival, “I Have Masterpieces” — Sino-Foreign Puppet Theatre Exchange Exhibition, Puppet
Workshops, Puppet Show Comment Time, and “Let’s Talk about Puppets” — Beijing International Puppet Forum. Related content will be available both in theatres and
online via the festival’s official video account and Bilibili channel, enabling a combination of online and offline activities.
BrUNIMA
British UNIMA (BrUNIMA), the UK arm of UNIMA, the Union Internationale de la Marionnette, a global puppetry organisation founded in 1929 and affiliated with UNESCO. Since our founding in 1963, BrUNIMA has been dedicated to promoting international exchange and celebrating the art of puppetry.
As a volunteer-run organisation, we work tirelessly to support puppetry enthusiasts, practitioners, and companies by facilitating connections, sharing resources, and providing opportunities to attend international festivals, workshops, and events. We also publish Puppet Notebook, a high-quality magazine exploring the diverse world of puppetry, from traditional forms to contemporary innovations.
